I am recently on a diet. I am 12 years old, and trying to loss weight. My mom doesn't agree with me that burning more then you ate in one day is the key to successful weight loss! Is that true? What are some good tips?

Some people assume that exercising in a hot environment causes you to burn more calories and loss more weight, but it seems to me that would just be water weight lost through sweating. However, if you exercise in colder temperatures, wouldn't that cause you to burn more calories, as your body must work harder to maintain our relatively high body temperatures?
